Credit derivatives terminology

Securitisation: A process whereby specific assets, portfolio, contracts or credit derivatives are converted into capital market securities, by transferring such assets, portfolio or derivative contracts to a special purpose vehicle which in turn issues securities representing such assets, portfolio or derivative contracts. Thereby, the assets, portfolio or derivative contracts have been transformed into securities – hence the name securitisation.
