Credit derivatives terminology

Cash settlement: Refers to terms of settlement in a credit derivative transaction, under which, upon happening of a credit event, the protection seller will make a cash payment to the protection buyer to the extent of the difference between the par and market value of the reference obligation. Compare with physical settlement.
